2013 - 15 NATCAP Board Candidates

Campaining for Chapter Elected Positions:

Chapter board candidates must adhere to stated campaign policies and maintain dignity and decorum. SGMP must not be placed in any situation that would reflect poorly on its reputation in the hospitality industry.

Candidates may not speak negatively about other candidates. The emphasis should be on the qualifications and what the individual candidate will bring to the organization.

Candidates are encouraged not to spend a great deal of money for campaign purposes.

Candidates cannot align with other candidates to form a slate of candidates who have agreed to run together.

It is understood that SGMP members will have preferences among chapter candidates and it is certainly acceptable that there will be discussions among members regarding nominations & elections issues and candidates. However, SGMP members are prohibited from endorsing or publicly promoting any one candidate or candidates.

Unprofessional and/or unethical conduct during the nominations & elections period by any nominee or candidate may be referred to SGMP for review of a Code of Ethics violation, and such conduct may be cause for disqualification on the official ballot.

The Nominations & Elections Committee (N&E) is pleased to announce the slate of candidates for the 2013-15 NATCAP Board of Directors.

Please note the following timelines for the NATCAP board election process:
             
* December 26, 2012 - January 14, 2013 - Campaign period for NATCAP board candidates
             
* January 15 - 22, 2013 - Chapter Voting; Electronic ballots sent to  all NATCAP members in good standing
             
* January 22, 2013 - Voting ends at 5 pm Eastern Time
             
* January 31, 2013 - Election results announced to the entire Chapter

President - Candidate
Sean Wilkerson, CGMP
Serving the last two years as 1st Vice President, and being a member of NATCAP since 2008, has been a rewarding and exciting opportunity. My background ranges from Director of Events for a non-profit association to my current Position with the Department of Commerce / USPTO in International Program Management and Operations.

NATCAP has allowed me to apply my skills to the Membership, Programs and Communications Committees in various ways over the past four years. One of the biggest accomplishments was the NATCAP Website re-launch which received the “SGMP Website of the Year.”

Elizabeth Perrin
Director, Consulting Services Courtesy Associates
- 27 years of experience in the travel industry
- Directs a team contracting specialists to consult with hotels, conference, and convention centers to obtain and maintain multiple award schedules with the General Services Administration.
- Responsible for developing, managing and overseeing the Consulting Services unit, formed in response to the General Services Administration (GSA) creating a new opportunity for hotels and conference, and convention centers to be placed on the GSA Schedule.
- Elizabeth was instrumental in working with the GSA to develop and implement the multiple award schedule for meetings and conference services.



Renita Street, CGMP
Born & raised in the DMV, I've been in the meetings industry for 12+ years and enjoying every moment. I am the Meetings Coordinator for the Early Head Start National Resource Center (EHS NRC) at ZERO TO THREE and I am responsible for management & set up of all of our registrations as well as going to national conferences/meetings to represent (EHS NRC). I currently serve as Director at Large on the NATCAP Board of Directors; previously serving as Secretary - I've held membership with SGMP since August 2006 & obtained my CGMP in September 2008.






Sherry Tiggett, CMP, CGMP
Sherry Tiggett is a CGMP and CMP proficient in managing people and processes. She is a Senior Conference Manager with Millennium Services 2000+, Inc.
Since joining NATCAP in 2006, she was a 2007-2009 Board member who led the Honors and Awards, and Community Outreach committees in producing two Galas, participation in multiple community outreach events, and doubling funds toward charitable organizations. She has remained active through committee involvement.
She believes that investing the time to serve, beyond 9 – 5, and ensuring that Chapter members are engaged and that their voices are heard is critical to NATCAP’s success.

Chris Cecil, CMP,
A Senior Sales Executive for the Gaylord National Hotel and serves as the Supplier Director/Chair of the Programs Committee for the SGMP NATCAP Chapter. She has been with the Gaylord National since 2007. She has served in many industry organizations in a leadership role, such as President of the Hotel Sales & Marketing Partnership and VP of Communications for the Philadelphia Area Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (PAMPI). She has also won many awards from her Hotel and from industry organizations, such as Supplier of the Year from PAMPI and as Executive Sales Manager of the Year from Gaylord Hotels.





Bernard Howe
Sr. Sales Manager Sheraton Silver Spring Hotel
With 30+ years in the hospitality industry, I continue to use what works best to develop personal and professional relationships. Currently I am the Sr. Sale Manager at Sheraton Silver Spring while servicing my 2nd Term as Treasurer for SGMP NATCAP. As Treasurer I am responsible for controlling a budget of $150,000.00. As a member of the NATCAP Board I served as WM&TS Co-Chair, Director for Community Outreach Committee, won Supplier of the Year and won 2011 President Award. I am a proud Native of Washington DC.

Ruthie Browning
Ruthie Browning is a Technical Vice President and Senior Conference Manager for the MayaTech Corporation in Silver Spring, MD. She has been with MayaTech since 1997. She has been an avid member of SGMP/NATCAP since 2005 serving in many capacities including being the co-chair of the Membership Committee, the Community Outreach Committee, the Special Events Committee and most recently serving as Board Secretary for the past administration. Her favorite NATCAP activity is the Holiday Celebration and Silent Auction and waits with baited breath for the big ticket items in the live auction.

Dori Laack, CGMP
Having earned my CGMP in 2010, I am a results oriented sales and marketing professional for Tampa Bay & Company (CVB). My professional expertise lies in government meetings and costs associated with them. I am an organized and focused person. Budgets, forecasts and spreadsheets are my trademarks and I know I will be the most dynamic treasure for NATCAP.
Currently I am the Chair of the Fundraising Committee where all dollars raised go towards scholarships to our members. Vote for me and I will lead us into the next fiscal year in the most cost effective, creative, budgeted, strategic way.



Chris McLaughlin, CGMP, CGTP Director, Global Sales Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group
Chris has 23 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including six years with Marriott and 17 years with Carlson. Since 1999, Chris has been consistent presence in the Mid-Atlantic region and a resource to government and association customers.
Chris is an active member of the SGMP NATCAP chapter and holds several industry certifications including; Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP), Certified Government Travel Professional (CGTP), and he is a licensed Contracting Officer Representative (COR). In addition, he earned a B.S. in 1994 in the College of Journalism at the University of Nebraska.

My name is Trevor Curtis, I work for Visit Fairfax and represent Fairfax County, VA. I handle the Government & Social markets and also am the group services manager for the organization. Fairfax County is a wonderful destination to sell, with its proximity to DC and all that it has to offer. From George Washington’s Estate and Gardens to 100+ wonderful hotel properties to some of the best shopping on the East Coast at Tysons Corner. Everything about the county makes it fun to sell and a wonderful place to work!




Remella Lewis, CGMP

Sales Manager Starwood Mid Atlantic Metro Market
I graduated with a Business Administration degree from Adamson University, Philippines and have always been passionate about people. In January 2008, I became the government Sales Manager for The Westin Arlington Gateway and have been a member of SGMP NATCAP since. I have been with the Membership Committee and have been tasked with the Buddy Program for the last two years. Last year, I received Supplier of Month for September. I am currently Sales Manager for Starwood’s Mid Atlantic Metro Market to include St. Regis, W DC, Westin Georgetown, Westin Arlington Gateway, Westin Alexandria, and Sheraton Premiere at Tysons Corner.

With over 23 years of experience in the hospitality industry - working as both a planner and a supplier, I will bring a depth of knowledge and strong commitment to the chapter board.
I will promote the importance and value of government meetings in this challenging environment and champion the ethics and integrity of the dedicated individuals within our industry. My goal is to make a positive impact on the image of government meetings and SGMP.


Erika Noyes, CMP, CGMP (not pictured)
Erika has been in the meeting management industry for over sixteen years. She has experience in the planning and management of government, pharmaceutical, corporate, and educational conferences and meetings. Her experience has given her hands-on knowledge of contract negotiations, financial management, site selection, vendor selection and overall logistical planning. The last four years she has been the Senior Conference Planning Manager with ARAMARK Corporation on contract with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation planning both internal and external events. Erika earned her Certified Meeting Professional designation in 2006 and her Certified Government Meeting Professional designation in 2009.

Has 23 + years in sales, marketing and management in the hospitality and meetings industries. Great facilitator who has spoken at a number of industry related events. NATCAP association includes 2012 MC Honors & Awards Banquet, 2012 Supplier of the Month and Special Events Committee member. Other industry associations include 2009 Chairman of the CVBReps, NESAE Board Member from 2007-2009, DMAI Mint Committee Member 2008-present, recipient of PCMA-Capital Chapter 2006 Presidents Hospitality Award & 2010 Spirit Award. Throughout her career, has been responsible for playing an integral part of a team, managing staff, and working with budgets and goals.
